Storytelling has always fascinated Thomas Bienert the most. Although he has always worked as an artist alongside his advertising career, it took 33 years before he was finally able to concentrate on art. Now he tells stories from real life. Creating just one beautiful painting is not my goal. I think in series. I am a workhorse. I shoot a lot, I think a lot, I research and I write and edit everything myself. I never use templates (except for this website) or filters or people for post-processing. Because nothing is more interesting and relevant than people's lives. I tell stories about what happened the day before someone's life radically changed, or how it feels when you have dementia and your memories become blurred. These stories are based on the experiences of the last years of his father, who died of dementia. He was born in the utopia of German socialism, but thanks to his brave parents and their lucky escape, he grew up in a small village among cattle paddocks and potato fields in western Germany. After school, he studied visual communication and started taking photographs. He started working in advertising when Miami Vice was still a TV series. As a creative director, he sold lipsticks, bank loans and spirits for international advertising networks.
