About the artist
Time, gravity, temperature - everything is involved in creation
Marina Wittemann is a Russian artist who has exhibited in the UK, Brussels, Luxembourg, China and Brazil. Wittemann's art explores the emotionality of the viewer through the sensual qualities of the material. She favours the use of paper or unconventional materials to challenge our perception.

Marina Wittemann was born in Russia but lives and works in Germany. The artist is a synaesthete and came to this realisation through the use of colours with newspapers in her artworks. Thus, the artist began to use found and unnecessary building materials. In her artist statement, the artist points out:
"The purpose of art is to give pleasure, to heal, to question, to be decorative.... If you don't feel strong emotions before the work, walk away. You have only one life. Spend it doing what gives you pleasure and emotion. "
"In my art I translate this experience [synaesthesia] by juxtaposing sculpture and painting, paper and canvas, abstract and realistic, the action of making and the static of a finished object, the mental and the physical, with colour playing a major role. I let the unconventional materials reveal themselves to challenge the viewers' perception of physical objects or events. Chance can influence the end result. Time, gravity, temperature - everything is involved in the creation. It is therefore a language without words, in which new interpretations of ordinary objects or materials emerge for recycling.
Each of the exhibited works has its own unique colour. They support the idea and reinforce the feeling"
