About the artist
No more thinking. Painting.
The Düsseldorf artist Klaus Heckhoff leaves the safe paths of the familiar. He paints digitally. He uses the new technology because it helps him to switch off the ratio addressed to him and to make room for a visual intelligence. Digitalisation allows him to experiment spontaneously with elements of colour, form and meaning with a spontaneity that is not possible in traditional painting.
-
I want the unimagined, the not pre-imagined images. The images that know more than I do. Digitisation helps me to break out of the cage of my thinking and to enter the paradise of chaos and to put the brakes on rational considerations as far as possible, so that the chance for knowledge grows. Because, as we know, knowledge always grows when the usual coherence is broken and expectations are outwitted, says Heckhoff.
He can see immediately and in real terms on the screen of his computer what is happening on his digital canvas. Heckhoff can spontaneously assess the individual picture elements, weigh them against each other, accept or reject them. He no longer has to take the diversions via the limited possibilities of his consciousness and think up how something could theoretically be. The subjunctive falls away. Heckhoff uses the opportunity to make archetypal knowledge visible and tangible.
